gage and charissa ~ deer creek valley ranch wedding ~ denver colorado wedding photographer

denver wedding photographerI have to warn you, all 2 of you that will read this blog, that there’s a lot of photos about to fly at your pretty little faces.

I suppose I should probably try to keep the word vomiting to a minimum since that’s the case, but that’s probably not going to happen either. #yolo

I love shooting fools in love. I especially love shooting fools in love that I’m stupidly good friends with. It kicks my normal level insanity up to a whole new level of awesome and reckless abandon. See, I grew up with Gage long ago in a wheat field far, far away. I could actually stop for a minute and try to think about how many years I’ve known him, but that requires effort I’m not prepared to put forth at this moment. Somewhere around 20. Ish.

When he and Charissa first met me in Tulsa to do their engagement session, it was mostly a lot of laughter. And beer. We had SO much fun, in fact, we met up again a few months later in Denver, CO and did it all over again. Laughter and whiskey this time, in the gorgeous Mile High (hahaha) City.

I love this wedding. Mostly because I sincerely adore these people, but also because they did what they wanted to do on their wedding day. They had an absolutely gorgeous first look, at which Gage got his surprise boudoir album from Charissa. My most favorite part of their day being during their ceremony, when they decided that the normal traditions of a sand ceremony, unity candle, and all of that shtuff was a bit outdone, and put their own twist on it; peanut butter and jelly colored sand, in which a candle was shoved and lit with peanut butter and jelly colored candles, followed by making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich which they fed to each other. That’s what they wanted to do, so they did it.

The sky didn’t fall, and they were happy. And for all of you out there in Hey We Just Got Engaged land, you’re going to be told fifty bazillion times how important it is that you do things just like everyone else has done them before you. Only that’s a load of crap, and you can celebrate your crazy awesome love story however you both want to, regardless of what adult throws a selfish tantrum. You can quote that if you’d like.

It’s your wedding day. Do what you want.

Charissa and Gage ended their wedding day by running for their lives with a lot of balls flying at them, and while I’m sure there’s some sort of relevant life analogy there, I’ll let you guys come up with that on your own. After we left the venue, and with sincere apologies to whatever farmer’s field we all climbed into, we found a place to do a sparkler exit. Because it’s easier to ask forgiveness than permission, that’s why.

To Charissa and Gage, I love and adore you both. Thanks for such an awesome year of getting to hang out with your sweet faces so much.

To my dear friend Kelley Prather of Kelley Kakes in Denver, I big puffy heart you. Getting to actually work with you for the first time in the 6 years of our friendship was everything I hoped for and more. You are the Magical Unicorn Princess of Cakes. I hope you win all the WeddingWire awards. (HAhahahahahahahah “awards”. *sigh*)

To the absolutely lovely folks at the stunningly gorgeous Deer Creek Valley Ranch, thank you all so, so much for your graciousness and hospitality to all of us heathen wedding vendor folk, and for treating my friends so very well.

And now, a freakishly large amount of photos  ~
